The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), an authority in sustainable printing certifications, has announced that Monadnock Paper Mills has increased its patronage of SGP to gold level.

Patrons recognize and support SGP’s continuing role in advancing the benefits of sustainable practices and certification to both the print and buying communities. SGP patrons promote a more sustainable future and sustainable supply chain.

“Monadnock and SGP share a commitment to sustainability and innovation,” states Jonathan Graham, chair of the SGP Board. “As the oldest continuously operating paper mill in the United States, Monadnock has a legacy of sustainability, demonstrating the critical balance of people, planet and profit.”

Monadnock’s product portfolio, numbering more than 200 grades of paper, is FSC certified, manufactured carbon neutral (VERs) and made with 100% renewable Green-e certified wind powered electricity (RECs) under a third-party certified ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. In recent months, the company has introduced sustainable papers and packaging materials made from alternative fibers such as industrial hemp, cotton linters, and jute derived from recycled coffee bags. Monadnock’s online Environmental Impact Calculator helps industry partners and customers forecast and assess the positive impacts on energy, air, water and waste by specifying its papers.

“Monadnock joined SGP last year as a silver patron. To answer the demand from global brands, even through the pandemic, we stayed the course with considerable development of new and sustainable printing and packaging papers,” says Julie Brannen, director, sustainability solutions, Monadnock. “We recognize the synergies and alignment with SGP principles and the importance of supporting sustainability in the printing supply chain. In order to accelerate this mission, we increased our support to gold status.”

“Our work to build an increasingly sustainable supply chain is accelerating through strategic partnerships with leading companies like Monadnock,” adds Graham. “As the SGP sustainability certification expanded from printing facilities to manufacturing and supplier facilities in 2022, Monadnock serves as a key example of how facilities can build sustainability into their company DNA.”

“We are glad to be involved in the work of SGP and increase our support to optimize sustainability across the supply chain,” comments Brannen. “At Monadnock, we’re committed to building a better world together with our customers and industry partners.”
